Dr. Reginald Washington, Chair

Dr. Reginald Washington was born and raised in Colorado Springs and was the first in his family to attend college.  He received his BS from Colorado State University and his MD from the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  He completed his residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital and his fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Washington served as the Chief Medical Officer for Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children from 2009 to 2023, and as the CMO at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center from 2017 to 2023.  He is also the Past President of the Medical Staff and Past Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center. Dr. Washington  was a Pediatric Cardiologist in private practice for 30 years at HealthONE and is currently a consultant and Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.

He was Past Chairman of the Committee on Sports Medicine and Fitness of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and he was Co-Chairman of the Task Force on Obesity for the Academy. He is a member of the National Council on Youth Sports Safety.  Dr. Washington also served two terms on the Board of Directors of the National American Heart Association. In addition to his service as a Buell Foundation Trustee since 2006, he currently serves on the Boards of the Denver Center for Performing Arts (DCPA) and the Helen Bonfils Foundation.

Dr. Washington has received numerous awards from organizations including Colorado State University, Regis University, 5280 Magazine, National American Heart Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  He was a finalist for Surgeon General of the United States in 2006.
