“Meet the Pressing Needs of the Time”
The guidance to the Trustees of the Buell Foundation by Mr. Buell was simple. As a forward thinking man, he knew that he could not anticipate the needs of Colorado in the future. He entrusted the Foundation with the goal of meeting the pressing needs of the time, and he understood that those needs would change. The Trustees of the Foundation have ensured that the funding of the foundation not only meets the needs of today’s Colorado, but that the programs funded are of the highest quality.
Under special circumstances, the Trustees have found that in order to meet these needs, new programs must be created. Today the Foundation supports two Legacy Projects that carry the Buell name and exist to move the early childhood sector forward: the Buell Early Childhood Leadership Program and the Buell Early Childhood Leaders Network. More information is available about both of these programs on their dedicated pages.
In addition to these two Buell projects, the Foundation has supported innovative and significant projects with the potential to demonstrate broad impact on current, relevant issues. For example, in 2013, the Buell Foundation provided a large grant to the University of Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus to support the GMP Facility in the Charles C. Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology. This project provided a unique opportunity for the Foundation to support contributions to the field of medicine through a better understanding of stem cell biology. The potential to change treatment of myriad conditions is unfounded.
The Buell Foundation continues to seek additional projects to build a lasting and impactful legacy.
